Apidura Saddle Pack — 6 Months On
Honest review of the Apidura Expedition Saddle Pack after 6 months of bikepacking across three continents.
Six months. Three continents. Roughly 8,000 km of mixed terrain. That's the context for this review of the Apidura Expedition Saddle Pack. I've used it in Scottish rain, Moroccan heat, and Japanese humidity. Here's the honest verdict.
The waterproofing is genuinely excellent. I've ridden through sustained downpours in the Scottish Highlands and everything inside stayed dry. The roll-top closure is fiddly at first but becomes second nature. The tapered shape integrates well with most saddles and doesn't cause the dreaded "sway" that plagues cheaper bags.
Capacity is the main limitation. The 17L version sounds generous but packs down quickly once you add a sleeping bag, bivy, and spare layers. I've learned to be ruthless about what goes in. The compression straps help manage the load when it's not full.
Durability: no issues after 6 months. No seam failures, no zipper problems, no delamination. The attachment straps have held firm even on rough gravel. For the price, the build quality is hard to fault.
Would I buy it again? Yes, without hesitation. It's not perfect — the price is steep and the capacity is limiting — but for reliability and waterproofing, nothing I've tested comes close.
