Overview

Japan is the world's most logistically forgiving bikepacking destination. A dense network of convenience stores, vending machines, and coin laundries means you can travel light and resupply constantly. The contrast between ultra-modern cities and ancient mountain temples makes every day feel like two different worlds.

World-class convenience stores every 20km. Vending machines in the mountains. The ultimate supported adventure — hot food and dry socks always within reach.

Rider Tips

  • Convenience stores (7-Eleven, Lawson, FamilyMart) are your best friend — hot food, charging points, and ATMs.
  • Avoid Golden Week (late April–early May) and Obon (mid-August) — accommodation fills up months in advance.
  • Many rural roads have no shoulder but traffic is light and drivers are extremely courteous.
  • Carry cash — many rural areas and small towns are still cash-only.
