Overview

Namibia is the world's most sparsely populated country, and it shows. The Namib Desert is the world's oldest, the Skeleton Coast is one of the most remote coastlines on earth, and the Damaraland wilderness stretches for hundreds of kilometres without a single settlement. Water planning is a matter of survival, not convenience.

Skeleton Coast gravel, Damaraland wilderness, and the Namib Desert. Carrying 5 days of water is normal. The silence is absolute.

Rider Tips

  • Water planning is life-or-death — always know your next water source and carry more than you think you need.
  • Gravel roads (C and D roads) are generally well-maintained but corrugations can be brutal — lower tyre pressure.
  • Camping on communal conservancy land requires permission — always ask at the nearest settlement.
  • Wildlife is everywhere — elephants, lions, and leopards are present in northern regions.
